Beat the Backlist: Goals and TBR

Hi, friends! The year is almost over, which means it’s that time in which many of us set reading goals for the upcoming year.

In 2018, I want to focus on reading the books I’ve owned for the longest time (which is since sometime in 2015). When I found out about Beat the Backlist, I thought participating would be a great way to stay motivated to read those older books.

I’m expecting 2018 to be a fairly busy year, so my official goal for this challenge is going to be 20 books. But of course, I will try my best to read as many backlist books as possible (especially since another goal of mine for 2018 is to buy as few books as I can manage–hopefully zero).

Here is my Beat the Backlist TBR:

  1. Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
  2. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
  3. The Rose and the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh
  4. Vicious by V.E. Schwab
  5. Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes
  6. Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes
  7. Gathering Darkness by Morgan Rhodes
  8. Frozen Tides by Morgan Rhodes
  9. A Book of Spirits and Thieves by Morgan Rhodes
  10. The Darkest Magic by Morgan Rhodes
  11. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
  12. A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
  13. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
  14. The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski
  15. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
  16. Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor
  17. Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor
  18. Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
  19. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
  20. Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray

  1. So many cool books on your list!! ❤ I hope you enjoy all of them, I screamed a bit when I saw The Winner’s Curse because I adore that book too much! Also, The Wrath and The Dawn, yaaas, get to it!!! ❤ Six of Crows is exceptional, but I also still have to read Crooked Kingdom (even though I already own it) shameeee! 😭 I won’t take part in this because I usually never stick to these resolutions and I’d rather not be disappointed with myself afterwards. But I wish you good luck, I’m sure you’ll smash this list! 😘

    1. I know, right? I hope they’re all awesome!

I’m actually already reading The Winner’s Curse and am more than halfway done with it. I’m struggling to read it because of the slavery aspect, but I really love Arin.

I’m definitely reading The Wrath and the Dawn soon. I’ve owned it since 2015 so it’s about time I read it.

You should read it soon! But there’s zero shame in not having read it yet, don’t worry.

I’m really bad at sticking to my reading resolutions/lists too (*cough* and all types of TBRs *cough*), but I’ve had most of the books on that list since 2015. I like if I don’t read them in 2018, I probably never will. And thanks, Marty! I will definitely try, haha. ♥
